Start Small & Start From Home

Hi,

Calling all visionaries, entrepreneurs and inspiring entrepreneurs now is the time to pursue your dreams and walk in your true purpose. We have more down time than before so here’s the “sign” you’ve been waiting for!

There’s a lot of uncertainty when you’re starting a new business and over the years, I’ve attempted to do it all. I’ve tried catering, I made jewelry, and sled published a book the list goes on and on. I’m a single parent and to have to work full time!

I set weekly and monthly goals and every day I work towards them. Some days it’s a struggle to push myself because it can be discouraging and exhausting but if I don’t do it who will? You can’t wait around for someone to “discover” you the Bible says Faith without works is dead James 2 ( I’m paraphrasing) and the world says no pain not gain & no risk no reward! You get the point!

Some days I brainstorm ideas or research other successful businesses. In the past I didn’t have the resources to take any of my ideas to the next level.  Although, catering and jewelry design are businesses that you can run out of your home, they can also be costly when your sales are inconsistent!

Here it is… my one useful business tip: FOCUS! I wished that someone would’ve told me to focus on one type of jewelry piece, such as; bracelets. You can make different variations of bracelets without ever making the same piece twice. I can not stress the importance of sticking to one type of jewelry in the beginning, it keeps the cost and the pressure down. Regardless, of what people tell you. They’ll have you spending money, designing and taking time from your family but they’re not buying.  Now, there are always exceptions to the rule: if you have a special order, a wedding event for example, make sure you secure a deposit before purchasing additional supplies. Over time add necklaces, rings etc. Set a goal of how much money and time you can invest.

In the case of my failed attempt at catering, I’ve learned to start with something you specialize in such as sandwiches or desserts.  Again, focus on your specialty and then build your menu. You can hold tasting parties, to gage what people prefer and that’s a good way to network and market your business.

Remember, Tracie from Pretty’ N Lashed? Tracie has started her business right from home, where she can still manage her household and has no overhead expenses. Her supplies will last for months at a time. She doesn’t have much to maintain and she’s profiting! Look at the video below to check out Tracie’s in home work station.

I Ghosted My Job!

I decided in 2020 to be open about my mental health disorder: Bipolar Disorder.

I recently took on a second seasonal job for the holiday. I was overly excited (manic) I was like a little kid running around excited on Christmas morning. I really enjoyed the IDEA of having the job. I worked at a retail store that I shopped frequently prior to being an employee. I specifically wanted to work this home decor store. I provided my availability and they gave me just that! My managers were cool my co-workers instantly became like a little family even the customers were cool!

After a couple weeks of working the commute the scheduling everything became too much. The job felt like a burden!
I also made adjustments to my meds so my emotions were all over the place I didn’t know if I wanted to sing a joyous hymn or ball up and cry in my bed all day. Getting up in the mornings to start my regular work day took all the energy and prayers I could muster up at 6 am.

I know how to fake it until I’m up again! That’s what I’ve always done! Having a Bipolar disorder means you have extreme highs known as manic episodes and you have lows. A manic episode can lead you on a flight out of the country to “find yourself” without a dollar in your account to fund the rest of the trip.

And when you’re low you sometimes can’t move out the bed. It’s not a completely hopeless situation because there’s meds that keep you balance! But when you make changes to your meds in the middle of a lifestyle change such as getting a new job or a second job etc it can be overwhelming! It can feel like the wind has been knocked out of you!

It was Saturday morning and I had to be at work that afternoon I laid in bed all morning like I was paralyzed. The mere idea of getting dressed and having to talk to people all day was just too much.

I didn’t even have the energy to call off. I promised myself I would do it later in the evening. My manager called twice and left very concerned messages and there I laid almost 40 and I was hiding under the covers. I just couldn’t handle explaining what was happening and I felt so guilty!

I believe she would’ve truly understood. But it was too much for me at the time! I tried to find an email or some way to communicate privately what was happening! I don’t mind sharing but sometimes it’s hard to introduce your real self to people! It’s been a week today and I’m back to somewhat of some normalcy and preparing for Christmas!

I’ll see you guys in 2020. Happy holidays to all and to all a good night!

5 Easy Steps To Breaking Habits

Hello,

I’m all about self-improvement and I have a few bad habits that I’d like to break such as going to bed without brushing me teeth that’s one of my lesser crimes 😉. It’s so easy to cozy up in bed buried under the covers.  I decided that I am going to create a new night time routine and set a nightly alarm on my phone to remind myself to adhere to the new routine.

Dictionary.com defines habit as “an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary: the habit of looking both ways before crossing the street.”

Here’s a few tips to get started with having a healthier lifestyle and breaking a habit.

  1. Identify the habit
  2. Identity what caused the habit.
  3. Why does it needs to be changed?
  4. Create an alternative.
  5. Implement the change.

Until next time.

Tuesday’s Tip

Hi guys!

We all have challenges in our lives and were not built to take them on alone.  Sometimes a stranger can be a better friend to you than family. Here’s a little tip for you to encourage you to stay the course.

Please listen below…

Let’s Experience Life Together

Like most women I love shopping and not just for clothes and shoes but for anything, all the way down to plumbing supplies. However, I’d rather shop online and pick up my items in the store to avoid crowds. I not a materialistic person I just like spending money without any restrictions. However, my reality is different from my free will to spend. I always feel like I don’t have enough money to travel as much as I’d like or to make major purchases without financing. I have one income that needs to stretch 17 different ways and it’s not a substantial income.

So I decided to create a budget by evaluating my needs vs my wants. We have to learn how to put down the sale items. Sales can be tricky because you think your saving but realistically, you’re probably spending money on things you don’t need at time. I’ve bought things over and over because they were one sale and then I’d forget about it and buy it again…you don’t forget to use things you need!

There are so many different budgeting tips out there including the bible so I’m not going to bore you with more. What I will say is create a budget and stick with and set a goal with the money your saving. Set a goal that allows you to experience something new and appears seem unobtainable based on your current finances. You’ll be surprised how much money you can to save for retirement or a trip out of the Bahamas by bringing lunch from home. Each time you overspend think about how you’re delaying an having a new EXPERIENCE! Don’t let your Starbucks routine or ordering dinner every night interrupt you truly living in abundance!
